TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As it gets colder outside, most of us just turn up the heat, but many in our area don't have that luxury especially seniors who may be living on a tight budget.
Elder Care Services in Tallahassee is having their annual Spread the Warmth Space Heater Drive. They are collecting space heaters for hundreds of seniors in need in our area.
Program organizers said many elderly are frail and any temperature under about 70 degrees can feel cold, which can affect their health and overall well-being.
You can donate any functioning heater and every single one donated will be used. Right now they said they have more people who need heaters than they have in stock.
"Unfortunately we have had to place a lot of people on a waiting list for these space heaters, so we have probably about 140 people right now
waiting for a heater," said Ed Gines, Senior Solutions Specialist at Elder Care.
He said that as it gets colder up through March that that need will only continue to grow.
Elder Care Services can also use donations of blankets and throws and small items like woolen caps, scarves, and gloves.
If you are a senior and you need a heater please call Elder Care Services at 850-921-5554.
