JACKSONVILLE (WTXL) - On Friday evening, a complex of storms rolled through the viewing area triggering isolated high wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Even a tornado was confirmed in south-central Georgia.
National Weather Service officials from Jacksonville surveyed the area Saturday morning and say the EF-1 twister touched down at 9:10 pm Friday night just east of U.S. 221 in northern Clinch County.
It traveled to the east-northeast crossing county lines into Atkinson. It stayed on the ground for 7 miles and even crossed over U.S. 441 near the Atkinson/Clinch border. It had peak winds of 100 mph and had a maximum width of a half mile. No injuries were reported.
