ECHOLS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)--An Echols County man is behind bars after deputies say they found half a million dollars of marijuana on his property.

Echols County Sheriff Randy Courson says the investigation started after they received a public indecency complaint.

When they got to the home on Highway 129, deputies say Jose Sanchez answered the door and they smelled marijuana.

Investigators say an indoor grow operation was later discovered in a building in Sanchez's backyard with nearly 40 plants on Friday.

Sanchez's charges include trafficking and manufacturing marijuana. He's in the Lowndes County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
