EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) - While families await their temporary housing units, the Franklin County Emergency Management Center is busy putting together "move in kits" to stock those temporary homes.
But the center is facing a problem.
WTXL ABC's Jada Williams was live Tuesday morning with details about what workers with the donation center are asking.
It's definitely not a bad problem to have. Those workers say they aren't accepting most donations, and that's because they have an abundance of most items.
Now they're asking for for money and beds only.
The donation center is being housed in the Boys and Girls Club in Carrabelle.
It is currently full of every item imaginable, from toiletries, to kitchenware, and even furniture.
The team has put together kits full of necessities for families to stop by and grab, but with so many donations pouring in, they say they barely have the room to walk around anymore.
"Normally we're handing out water to people after hurricanes and ice, but this of course is a much bigger scale than we've ever had anything to do with and we've been extremely pleased with the volume of donations," said Tamara Allen, the donations committee chair. "We're so full now that we really don't have room for anything else."
As families begin to move into temporary housing, they can stop by the Donation Center to pick up those kits.
Allen says they have already handed kits out to some families.
Allen also says they're in need of more volunteers to help them organize and put things together.
