FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Fourth of July celebrations are taking place all over the Big Bend and south Georgia, including one in Eastpoint.

Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Station held a family friendly barbecue and everyone was invited to come out.

The cook-out, complete with ribs, chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs, is not only to thank the first responders who assisted with the fire, but also to help those affected.

In fact, a sheriff's deputy has been delivering meals to some residents who lost their houses, but can't make it out to get food.

This community helps each other, and Florida State University Chef, Jared Schiess, felt that this was the best way for him to help those affected have a better Fourth of July.

"I talked to a bunch people at the red cross the churches and it did seem like there was a lot of food prep cooking food and getting it to people and I have the resources to do that so I made a choice to have a party, so I had a party," said Schiess.

It was free to eat, but donations were also being accepted with the proceeds going back to the victims.
