PERRY, Fla. (WTXL) - An early morning fire Friday killed two people at a Perry residence.
Perry police were called to the 1400 block of South Quail Street at 3:55 a.m. The Perry Fire Department and Taylor County Fire Rescue also responded.
According to police chief Jamie Cruse, a 6-year-old girl and 61-year-old man died. Police have not yet announced the identities of the victims, nor their relation to each other.
Investigators are working to determine the details as to how the fire started. The residence has been taped off by Perry police, which had a stationed officer there in the morning.
The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations was also on scene. Spokesperson Jon Moore said the investigation is still in its early stages.
Cruse told WTXL over the phone that the fire is a "tragedy" affecting a "small community" like Perry.
