TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- A driver of a dump truck was flown to a hospital after it caught fire Monday afternoon.

According to the Leon County Sheriff's Department, 22-year-old Derek Kooi was driving his car and turned into the path of the dump truck on West Blountstown Highway.

The driver of the dump truck, 62-year-old Glen Semmes, was unable to avoid the car, said deputies.

The dump truck, which was carrying 21 tons of hot asphalt, rolled over and caught fire. Semmes was flown to a hospital in Gainesville for second and third degree burns.

Kooi was treated at the scene for minor injuries. At this time no charges have been filed against him, but the investigation is still ongoing.
