TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A student has been charged with grand theft after police caught him trying to steal a motorcycle from a FSU parking garage while "highly intoxicated."

Owen Reed, 21, was arrested after police were dispatched to Parking Garage 2 on Traditions Way about an intoxicated man attempting to start a motorcycle.

Witnesses told police that Reed was asking other people to help him start a black motorcycle. The witnesses advised the "highly intoxicated" man to find another way home but Reed didn't listen and began trying to start another motorcycle in the parking garage.

That's when witnesses called the Florida State University Police Department.

When they arrived, they found Reed with his hands on the black motorcycle, attempting to move the vehicle forward. They noted another motorcycle was also next to him.

Investigators say Reed was wearing khaki colored pants at the time that had a large black stain on the back as if he had been sitting in a dirty seat. When officers asked him what he was doing, Reed said he was just trying to get home and said the motorcycles weren't his.

During questioning, Reed admitted he didn't know who the motorcycles belonged to but said he was going to use them to get home and then return them in the morning before anyone noticed.

Based on the evidence, Reed was arrested on Friday and charged with grand theft. He has since gotten out of jail on a $5,000 bond.

Florida State University confirmed that Reed is a current student.
