Drought continues to vex farmers in several parts of Georgia

Posted

ATLANTA (AP) - The latest national report on the drought shows that conditions have improved slightly in parts of northeast Georgia.

However, the U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday shows that extreme drought conditions still exist in some northeast Georgia counties and in other parts of the state: The northwest corner and a large part of metro Atlanta, mostly to the south and west of the city.

In northeast Georgia, the worst drought conditions were in and around Banks and Franklin counties near Interstate 85.

The report also shows that most of north Georgia continues to experience either severe or extreme drought.

The U.S. Drought Monitor is produced through a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the federal government.
