Driver jailed after pointing gun at motorist on I-75 in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) — A 26-year-old man pointed a revolver at another driver during a road rage incident on I-75, troopers say.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release that Christopher Allen Banach was arrested Wednesday afternoon near Sarasota.

According to troopers, Banach displayed a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver to another driver. Troopers eventually stopped the car and arrested Banach.

The incident happened just north of the State Road 681 exit.

In addition to an aggravated assault charge, Banach faces multiple drug violations. Here are his charges:

  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Display of a firearm in commission of a felony
  • Possession of a controlled substance without prescription
  • Possession of cannabis with intent to sell
  • Paraphernalia (5 counts)

Troopers didn't say what sparked the road rage incident.

Jail records don't list a lawyer for Banach.
