Driver arrested for drugs, DUI after leading deputies on high speed chase

SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) – Driver arrested after leading deputies on a high speed chase in Sarasota.

Deputies first saw the driver, Issa Mousa Alyan, 61, swerving across lanes near Webber Street and Forest Knoll Drive on Wednesday morning. Alyan was driving a white Lincoln sedan.

He pulled into a parking lot in the 3600 block of Webber Street and deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop. A woman then entered the backseat of the Lincoln before Alyan sped off, away from deputies.

Alyan reached speeds of 70 miles per hour before he stopped in the 700 block of Tuxford Drive.

Deputies searched his vehicle and discovered methamphetamine, several prescription pills, a glass pipe and digital scale in the vehicle.

Alyan was arrested, given multiple traffic citations and transported to jail. He is currently being held on one count of Fleeing to Elude, three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving Under the Influence.

His bond is set at $7,000.

Alyan has more than a dozen prior arrests for crimes including Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Stalking and Fleeing to Elude.

The passenger was released after deputies determined she was not involved.
