TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The first female president of Florida A & M University starts her new job this week.
Dr. Elmira Mangum served as Vice President for Planning and Budget at Cornell University since 2010. On Tuesday, she becomes FAMU's 11th president.
Dr. Mangum told us in a previous interview that her love of learning will play a big role in how she leads the university. She replaces Dr. James Ammons, who resigned last summer amid controversy surrounding the death of drum major Robert Champion.
On Friday, April 4, the university is honoring Dr. Mangum with a welcome rally at 12:15 p.m. on the steps of Lee Hall.
