Florida residents are rallying behind an Apalachicola man who was arrested by ICE agents last month.

Protesters gathered at the capitol building Saturday after Jose Monroy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on February 10th.

The married father of two was the manager at the Apalachicola Piggly Wiggly store. Monroy has lived in the area for decades and those who know him say he is a beloved member of the community.

"This is a set of circumstances that, to me, seem un-American," said protester Mimi Minnick. "Monroy has lived in this country for over 20 years he's committed no crime. He's a home owner, married to a U.S. citizen, his child is a U.S. citizen. He's well respected in his community these are the kind of immigrants that we welcome in our community."

Monroy is currently being held in a nearby county. A GoFundMe page has been created to help his family to pay for legal fees.
