Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL) - From continual construction of housing to new shops and restaurants, downtown Tallahassee has seen substantial growth in the last few years. Since 2007, the city of Tallahassee has seen roughly one billion dollars in public and private investment pouring into its downtown areas.
Some of the most recent public investments include cascades park, rebuilding Franklin boulevard, and construction along the Gaines street district.
We spoke with Jay Revell with the Tallahassee downtown improvement authority, who tells us that these new developments bring an increased tax base for the city.
The most notable projects in the downtown area that have been constructed through private investment are: College town initiated by the Seminole Boosters, College center initiated by North American Properties, Four points by Sheraton downtown, Aloft Hotel, and "Merve's Melt shop" and "Proof Brewery" along Railroad Square.
