MIAMI (AP) — Billionaire Donald Trump has won the Republican Presidential Primary in Florida, beating Sen. Marco Rubio in his home state.
Florida voters gave 99 Republican delegates in the race for president. The Florida GOP primary is considered a pivotal moment in the campaign: The winner-takes-all contest means a huge boost.
Early, incomplete returns Tuesday showed Trump capturing roughly 45 percent of the vote. Rubio had about 28 percent.
Trump's often over-the-top rhetoric included controversial comments about women; and he's been combative at his sometimes violent rallies. His success has divided the party.
Even before Trump's victory was called, a group of conservative leaders is calling a meeting to discuss options for blocking his path to the Republican nomination — including the possibility of rallying around a third-party candidate.
