LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The numbers are in, and they're showing a decreased number of domestic violence cases in Leon County.

WTXL is taking a closer look at the drop in domestic violence cases, and what it could mean for victims.

No one ever sees themselves entering into an abusive relationship, but unfortunately, it happens. When comparing the number of reported cases for Leon County, there's been almost a three percent drop from 2015 to 2016, which could mean one of two things.

On the one hand, this drop in domestic violence and relationship reports could mean that there really is a decrease in those crimes for Leon County. On the other hand, however, this could mean that less and less victims are coming forward about the abuse.

In fact, domestic violence is one of the most underreported crimes, with less than 60 percent of all cases being reported.

For many victims, the fear is that the abuse will only get worse if a report is made. As for the victim's friends, they may not know how to help, but just talking is a good start.
