TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Department of Health is working with the City of Tallahassee to make sure that that they properly address community health concerns such as food scarcity and access to healthy food options.

WTXL ABC 27'S Karah Bailey was live with details about their Health Impact Assessments.

In a meeting Monday, the Department of Health met with City leadership ahead of the release of their Health Impact Assessments for the Greater Bond Community, and their goal is to ensure that the community's values reflect in the City's Comprehensive plan.

DOH noted subtle differences in priorities.

The City focuses on Land Use, whereas DOH focuses on how city decisions affect food scarcity, etc.

DOH is currently conducting focus groups to ensure that the questions presented to the community are easy to understand, and that the data collected in their assessments will be accurate.

"For the first time, I think this process is being used from the ground up," said Marcus West, division director of the Leon County Department of Health. "Instead of it being agency driven, we want the community to be involved. This is their process, and we want to make sure that the data that is gathered from it benefits the community."

The Department of Health expects to start the survey process mid July.

They plan to make results available to the public in August.
