TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A doctor's journey of running cross-country in all 50 states is in Florida to raise awareness about mental health.

WTXL ABC 27's Karah Bailey joins us live now from Cascades Park, where Dr. Adel Korkor will visit Tallahassee on his trek for a cause.

Korkor has visited states on the western seaboard including Hawaii, California and Alaska. Today he brings his nationwide 5k quest to raise awareness for mental health right here to Tallahassee.

He began his journey on May 5.

He hopes to help raise awareness for those dealing with the mental challenges that come with anxiety, post tramatic stress syndrom and even opioid addiction.

According to his research, 1 out of 5 Americans suffers from mental health issues.

"I've noticed that mental health has always been underserved," he said. "It's always been a big challenge for patients to find providers, to afford the care, to have the follow-up care, and so I decided that mental health would be a very important cause for me to focus on."

His goal is to unite people to speak up with their voices, their legs and their financial resources to make the world a happier place for everyone.

He will close the series wth his 50th 5k on June 23.
