Disney's Magic Kingdom remains most visited theme park in the world

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida remains the most visited theme park in the world.

A report released this month by The Themed Entertainment Association reports more than 17.5 million people visited the Magic Kingdom last year, up 2.3% from the year before. TEA also reports all parks at Walt Disney World saw a bump in attendance from 2011.

Disney's sister-park Disney California Adventure in Anaheim saw a 22.6% attendance increase, thanks in part to the new Cars Land expansion, while Disneyland saw a 1.1% loss.

Here is a look at the Disney and Orlando area rankings for 2012.

Outside Florida and California, the top spots went to Ohio's Cedar Point and Kings Island. Associated Press reports Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio came in 14th in the nation in attendance, and Kings Island near Cincinnati was 15th. Both had 3.2 million visitors in 2012.

RAISING THE PRICES

While the Magic Kingdom remains the most popular theme park in the world, it is also one of the most expensive.

Earlier this year Disney leaders raises the price of a single-day ticket to the Magic Kingdom to $95 plus tax. That's five-dollars more than single-day tickets to Disney World's three other parks; EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Universal-Orlando and SeaWorld have also raised ticket prices in recent months, both now charging $92 for one-day tickets for adults.

Magic Kingdom: $95 for adults

EPCOT: $90 for adults, $84 for children

Universal Studios Orlando: $92 for adults, $86 for children

Universal Studios Hollywood: $81 for adults, $73 for children

Busch Gardens Tampa: $85 for adults ($75 if purchased online), $77 for children ($67 online)

Busch Gardens Williamsburg: $80 for adults ($70 online), $70 for children ($60 online)

Dollywood: $56 for adults, $44 for children

Cedar Point: $55 for adults ($45 online), $30 for children if purchased online

Six Flags Magic Mountain: $65 for adults ($45 online), $40 for children

Knott's Berry Farm: $60 for adults ($40 online), $31 for children ($27 online) through June 27th
