TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Students are planning a die-in at the Florida Capitol for Tuesday to honor the 17 people killed at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas and to protest the Senate's decision to allow some teachers to carry guns in schools.
The groups include students from Florida State University, Florida A&M University and their allies.
Other groups are the FSU Black Student Union, FSU Students for Justice in Palestine, FSU NAACP, FSU Amnesty International Chapter, Florida National Organization for Women, Florida Student Power Network and Dream Defenders.
The groups plan to gather at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Capitol's fourth floor rotunda.
The group's news release said:
"We believe that an increased presence of guns in K-12 schools is not the answer to gun violence and will only increase the Zero Tolerance school system in Florida leading to more incarceration for at risk youth as well as an escalation of the school-to-prison pipeline while promoting violence against already vulnerable black, brown, Muslim, and LGBTQ+ youth."
