TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - DeSoto Trail elementary laid the foundation to their new building Wednesday. Leon County School officials gathered to kick off construction on the site along with 200 students.
The students wrote letters about their hopes for the future of the school. Those letters were presented at the ceremony and then put under the concrete foundation.
Michele Keltner, DeSoto Trail Principal said, "We're very excited. We are Trailblazers, and our spirit is resonating throughout our campus about the construction. It's been on the books many years to be done, and it's finally coming to fruition. We're really excited about that."
The building will be a two-story wing with a new cafeteria, art and music rooms. It's set to open next year.
