TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- More details are being revealed on what lead a 22-year-old man to stab and kill his hospitalized mother.
Alexander Sparks, 22, is accused of stabbing his mother at Capital Regional Memorial Center.
The Leon County Sheriff's Office was called to CRMC at Capital Medical Boulevard on Saturday night in reference to a death investigation.
Around 9:55 p.m. the nursing staff saw Sparks arrive on the fourth floor. Sparks walked down the hallway and stopped at the medical supply cabinet, grabbing a mask and gloves.
Documents say Sparks put the gloves and mask on before entering the victim's room.
Several minutes passed before nurses were alerted to the victim's heart monitor beeping.
According to documents, security video showed the nurse running away from the room with Sparks walking out several seconds later holding a knife in his hand.
Staff members can then be seen on the security video trying to get a medical crash cart to the room while Sparks is seen placing the knife down and walking away slowly.
Before leaving the floor, investigators write, Sparks was met at the elevator by security and a deputy who arrested him.
Sparks was then transported to LCSO for an interview.
During the interview, a deputy asked Sparks if he knew why he was here and Sparks responded,"I murdered my mother." He continued, saying he thought his mother was a negative influence.
He stated that he was at the hospital and then left to go home, where he got a knife he'd purchased. While at home for three hours, he had a beer and smoked 1.5 grams of marijuana.
Sparks says he then returned to the hospital, where he stopped on the fourth floor and put on gloves and a mask so he didn't get his mother's blood on him.
Next, he entered the victim's room and started stabbing her in the neck, chest, and arms. He then broke the victim's fingers after the victim continued to twitch and point at him.
Sparks said he stabbed her in the heart to make sure she was dead and he closed her eyes with his hand. He said he covered the body with a sheet prior to the nurse coming into the room.
Sparks told deputies that he knew the consequences of his actions and understood that this was "premeditated." He continued, saying that he has been thinking about killing his mother for two days and "two days only."
Sparks has been charged with premeditated murder.
