Deputy accused of tipping off suspected drug dealer

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL)-- A Thomas County deputy is out of a job, accused of tipping off a suspected a drug dealer.

Thomas County Deputies say Ronald Haggins was a road patrol deputy since 2007. He was arrested on Friday.

We're told he gave a drug dealer confidential information just before the suspect was to be arrested.

He's facing charges of violation of oath of office and obstruction of an officer.

"We are held to higher standard especially when it comes to honesty," said Captain Steve Jones with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office. "We hold ourselves to a higher standard. this can't be tolerated and we dealt with it quickly and justly."

Ronald Haggins is out of jail. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now looking at this case.
