LIVE OAK, Fla. (WTXL) - The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens about a recent scam circulating the Live Oak area involving a spoofed number of the sheriff office's main line.

SCSO says there is a scam happening in Live Oak where residents are receiving phone calls from the SCSO main number, 386-362-2222.

The suspect is telling residents that they failed to show up for jury duty or they failed to pay a fine and are demanding that people send money.

SCSO says the suspect also did research on one of the victims and knew where she and her husband worked. Deputies say the information was probably gathered from Facebook and a Google search.

SCSO states with modern technology, it is possible for suspects to manipulate their caller ID information to make it appear that they are a legitimate business. This is called spoofing.

SCSO reiterates they will never call a citizen and demand money.
