MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Law enforcement is warning residents about a recent scam where people are posing as a local electric company and demanding money.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office has been made aware of recent scam attempts where suspects are representing themselves as Tri-County Electric Cooperative Inc. and have been targeting commercial accounts in the Greenville area during the last 24 hours.
MCSO along with Tri-County Electric Cooperative Inc. (TCEC) would like to remind TCEC members to continue to use caution. They said TCEC will never require members to make a payment over the phone with a pre-paid card or by money order.
TCEC will also never require payments outside of normal 8-5 business hours. MCSO stated that Tri-County Electric Cooperative will never demand payment over the phone or aggressively threaten to disconnect service.
