LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) -- Deputies in Lowndes County are asking everyone to be on the lookout for an IRS scam.
Information from the Lowndes County Sheriff:
The Sheriff's Office has again received a number of calls from citizens who have been contacted by scammers posing as agents with the Internal Revenue Service. The caller has threatened to sue or arrest the person if they don't immediately send money to cover alleged back due taxes. These calls are not legitimate and often originate from random telephone numbers.
The I.R.S. nor any law enforcement agency will ever call you and demand money if lieu of being arrested or sued. If you receive such a call do not provide the caller any information and hang up.
As always, if you have questions, please call the Sheriff's Office at {229} 671-2900.
