PERRY, FL (WTXL) - The Taylor County Sheriff's Office says the death of a local teacher is being investigated as a homicide.

Shelly Strickland, 50, was found dead in her car on Osteen Road in Perry on Wednesday.

Authorities are not releasing the cause of her death while the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have more information about this incident to call (850) 838-3505. They want to specifically to talk to anyone who had contact with Strickland between Sunday and Tuesday.

A close friend of Strickland told WTXL that she was a native of Perry, who previously served as principal at Taylor County Middle School before teaching seven and eighth graders.

She graduated from Florida State University in 1985 and attended Taylor County High School before joining the school district as an educator for 30 years.

Paul Dyal, Taylor County Superintendent said, "The whole school district is at a loss in what has happened. As a smaller district, we are very much like a family. Our hearts and prayers go out to Mrs. Strickland's family."
