TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is behind bars after deputies say he forced his way into a home and assaulted two victims with a baseball bat.

According to court documents, Leon County deputies responded to Poplar Point Drive in regards to a battery that occurred on Saturday.

Dispatch advised officers that the victims were beaten with a baseball bat and the suspect had left the scene.

When deputies arrived, they were approached by a group of people trying to tell them what happened.

Among the group, deputies say there were two victims that were bleeding from their heads.

When deputies asked about the injuries, the victims immediately told them that they were beat up by 30-year-old Cody Boatner.

The victims said Boatner came to the home looking for someone who lived there. One of the victims answered the door and was immediately hit in the head with a baseball bat.

Documents say the other victim inside the house heard what happened and rushed to the door.

The second victim then began to fight with Boatner over control of the bat. During the fight, Boatner stepped into the home, grabbed a glass vase and hit the victim in the back of the head.

At this point, both victims were hurt and unable to stop Boatner.

According to witnesses, after Boatner assaulted the victims, he forcefully grabbed the person he initially came there to see and left.

As a result, both victims sustained injuries from the incident. Documents say one victim was admitted to a local hospital with a broken cheek bone and bleeding in the brain. The second victim was left with a large open cut on the side of the head.

After speaking with the victims, deputies left the scene to track down Boatner.

Later that day, deputies found Boatner and the person he took with him in a vehicle on Ida Road. Deputies say Boatner was bleeding from his head and had blood all over his clothes.

Deputies then separated the two and began speaking with the person about what happened. The person told deputies that Boatner didn't cause any harm to them.

The person only told deputies that Boatner had gotten into a fight earlier and refused to provide any other details.

After that, deputies went to search the vehicle for evidence of a possible kidnapping or battery. Documents say the only thing deputies found was a blood stained baseball bat.

When investigators spoke to Boatner about the incident, he told deputies he got hit in the head when he was protecting himself during the fight but wouldn't provide any additional details.

Based on the evidence, deputies arrested Boatner and transported him to the Leon County Detention Facility. He is being charged with burglary and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
