TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is facing felony charges after throwing a cinder block through his ex-girlfriend's window and breaking into her home because he mistook a 12-year-old boy for another man.

Veniko Byrd, 39, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Monday.

On May 20, deputies were called to Tall Top Drive and spoke to the victim. While talking with deputies, the victim said she separated from Byrd, who is the father of one her children, two weeks ago.

She said Byrd does not live at her residence, but he showed up to her home twice that day. According to her, the first time was at 9:30 p.m. and again at 10:39 p.m. Byrd was denied from coming into the home both times, but he stood in the front yard, refusing to leave.

Shortly after 10:39 p.m., the victim and her oldest son were sitting in the living room watching TV when they saw a cinder block come through a window, breaking the glass.

The victim said Byrd then climbed through the window and entered the living room. The complaint report states Byrd to the victim that he mistook the victim's eldest son as being another man.

The victim said she left the home with her two children and returned several minutes later. When she returned, Byrd was gone.

Later that night, the victim told deputies she received two text messages from Byrd on the night of the incident saying, "Um hiding in the woods because Sheriff is everywhere," and "I done did the dummy. The reason why I kept asking you wya [where you at], was because I had just left the house and thought I saw you. When you said you were in Quincy, I thought it was a dude in my house. I lost it. I could only see RED BRUH. I snapped and threw a brick thought the window. I Love her so much that I really LOST my mind."

Three days later, she received two more text messages from an unknown number saying, "It's okay. Everything is going to be okay. Everything that you have done so far has caused Major change in the lives of everyone you love. I have been sent to you to let you know that you are next..." and "You must pray now. You have caused a hellhound to be released upon your family. Pray now..."

Deputies called Byrd to get in contact him, but documents say Byrd didn't show up to meet them.

Based on the evidence, Byrd was charged with burglary of occupied dwelling and throwing deadly missile into occupied dwelling. A warrant was issued for his arrest on May 25.

Byrd was taken into custody on Monday. He was transported to the Leon County Detention Center, where he remains as of Wednesday, and his bond has been set at $15,000.
