TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 14-year-old student has been arrested after bringing a BB gun aboard a Leon County school bus Thursday morning.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says that on Thursday morning, the school resource deputy at Fairview Middle School received a tip from a concerned parent.

The parent said that they saw a child getting onto the bus with, what appeared to be a gun.

Coordinating with the school resource officer, deputies were able to hunt down the correct bus and stop it on Alexis Lane.

There, a 14-year-old boy matching the description given to deputies was located on the bus. During their investigation, the student admitted to having a BB gun which looked like a real gun.

The BB gun was taken by deputies on scene.

The student told LCSO School Resource deputies that he brought the BB gun to scare a friend of his. He said he knew he wasn’t supposed to bring the BB gun to school, but he didn’t think he’d get caught.

Based on the evidence, the student, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

WTXL has reached out to Leon County Schools for comment and are waiting to hear back.
