BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. (WTXL) - A man is being charged with premeditated murder after he turned himself in with his dead wife's body in the trunk of his car.

Dan Belc is in custody at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for as a suspect in a fatal Blountstown shooting.

On Friday around 12:05 a.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received a call about shots being fired at a home on Dessie Stone Road.

When they arrived they interviewed the homeowner who said that his sister and estranged husband, Belc, were arguing outside of the home, and at some point, he told deputies he heard multiple gun shots.

After the shots, he heard a vehicle leave the area and when he searched the area, he couldn't find his sister or her Belc.

Deputies note an investigation revealed there was more than one bullet casing on the ground and blood at the scene.

A short time later, Calhoun County law enforcement learned that Belc had contacted other family members and told them that he had shot his wife, had placed her in the trunk of the car, and intended to end his own life.

Around 4 a.m. Belc reached out to one of his children by telephone and during those conversations, he was encouraged to turn himself in.

At 7:11 a.m., Calhoun County deputies were contacted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, who said Belc had indeed turned himself in to them and was in custody.

Deputies say charges are forthcoming. Belc has been charged with one count of 1st Degree Pre-Meditated Murder.
