TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A Tallahassee woman has been arrested for scamming people as a fake landlord on Craigslist according to deputies.
Leon County Sheriff's Office said they arrested 30-year-old Lacey Sprowes at a North Monroe Regency Inn on Sunday after a tip-off from a previous victim.
Deputies said that Sprowes was posting ads advertising properties for rent on Craigslist. Several victims told deputies that they were scammed when they tried to rent the properties she advertised.
They said Sprowes would schedule out a meeting a public parking lot to finalize the deal for the property. Victims would give her the cash, ranging from $550 to $800, and she would give them a fraudulent lease to a place she didn't own, deputies said.
When the victims tried to contact her, the number she gave them was no longer in service.
Lacey Sprowes was arrested for grand theft and fraud.
