TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office arrests a man at Governor's Square Mall after he tried to use fraudulent credit cards to purchase nearly $15,000 worth of jewelry at Marks and Morgan Jewelers.

Deputies say they received reports of the suspicious activity and later caught up with the suspect, John Arratia, at the mall outside of Helzberg Diamonds, where he was asking about a pair of $1,000 earrings.

When they interviewed him, they found he had multiple sets of identification and credit cards from California, Washington and Florida.

After investigating, the Sheriff's Office says they were able to connect Arratia to an attempted purchase of $15,000 in Rolex watches from another local jewelry store, where he was also denied.

They say they also learned Arratia successfully purchased $11,825 worth of jewelry from the Tallahassee Diamond Center and was wearing that jewelry when he was arrested.

Deputies say the investigation is continuing and additional charges are likely.
