ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - George Zimmerman's attorney is asking for a delay to the start of the former neighborhood watch leader's trial next month so he can vet an expert for the prosecution.
Attorney Mark O'Mara filed the motion Thursday.
He says he needs more time to review the qualifications of a prosecution witness with an expertise in speech identification. O'Mara says prosecutors only made him aware of the expert a short time ago.
The expert could be used at trial to testify whose voices were on 911 calls that captured a fight between Zimmerman and 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman is charged with fatally shooting Martin. He is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder.
