Decision on future of Tallahassee Downtown CEO delayed

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Paige Carter-Smith still has a place with the Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority (TDIA).

Monday afternoon, the board of directors voted 4-3 to keep the status quo for now -- and to revisit talks about her future next month.

Carter-Smith is named in an FBI document, claiming she and Tallahassee city commissioner Scott Maddox are tied to a bribery investigation.

Maddox said he is not resigning.

Some residents have called for Carter-Smith's suspension, but board members hesitated to go that far -- at least not now.

Some said the board shouldn't rush to judgment and should wait until it can verify whether or not the allegations are true.

TDIA chairman Chris Dudley said this is an opportunity for Carter-Smith to prove she can juggle her duties with what he calls a "busy personal time in her life."

Carter-Smith declined to speak with media after the meeting. The board decided to update its website with the names of its members, meeting agendas and minutes to offer more transparency to the public.

The board will meet next on March 13.
