BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL)-- The Development Authority of Bainbridge-Decatur County is now working with Georgia Power to build two new facilities.
The project will create nearly 1,000 acres of solar panels. The projects will be completed near the Decatur County airport. The county says they're excited to take the initiative to help increase the area's green footprint-- the solar energy is set to help curb the amount of non-renewable resources like gas oil that are used. The county also says they're looking forward to the projects ability to help with property taxes and bring construction jobs to the area.
Rick McCaskill, executive director of the Development Authority, says there is a "large impact while the construction phase is going on, because there will be a tremendous amount of people involved in that, and then once that's all done it'll probably be 20-25 jobs keeping everything up and going at the solar farm."
According to the Development Authority, the projects should be completed by December 2016.
