DECATUR COUNTY, GA. (WTXL)-- The Decatur County Sheriffs Office is investigating a drowning at a creek off of Highway 84 Saturday.
Jovonte Jones, drowned while with a group of friends at Spring Creek. According to friends, Jones was waist deep in the water when he went under. He may have been unaware of the drop off in a sandbar.
Friends tried to rescue Jones and Deputies arrived in five minutes of getting the call, but Jones was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officials say there was also a swift current in the creek which is located just beneath the Brinson Bridge.
