TIFTON, Ga. (WTXL)--A Fitzgerald man is found dead near his car Monday morning.
When workers with the Georgia Department of Transportation arrived at work, they found a wrecked car in a fenced in area on the southwest part of the property.
Employees went to check it out. They found 83-year-old Everett James Bell on the ground near the car. They called 911 and units with the Tifton Police Department and Tifton-Tift County EMS responded.
The GBI also came out to investigate. The Tifton Police Department says foul play is not suspected, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident itself.
Tifton Police say it appears that the vehicle, driven by Bell, exited the back of Griffin Ford, crossed West 3rd Street, continued through the wooded area on the north side of the road, went through the fence on the back side of the GDOT yard, and crashed into a concrete barrier that was being stored there.
Police say it also appears that Bell was able to get out of the vehicle after the accident, but died nearby.
