TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Monday marks the last day for voters to register and update their party affiliation before the Florida Primary Election.

Secretary Ken Detzner of the Florida Department of State urges voters to make sure their voter registration and party affiliation are updated before the Primary Election at the end of August.

The Florida Department of State reminds individuals who are not registered to vote that their voter registration application must be submitted by Monday, August 1, as well as urging registered voters to update their political party affiliation.

Likewise, updates to a voter's signature to verify absentee ballots for the Primary Election must be submitted by August 15, 2016.

Voters are encouraged to double check their voter registration information, update their signatures, and be aware of the following deadlines in advance of the Primary Election on Tuesday, August 30.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner stresses the importance of meeting these deadlines, reminding voters that "while Florida is a closed primary state, voters should be aware that there will be a constitutional amendment on the ballot that all voters can vote on, regardless of party affiliation. In addition, there may be other local nonpartisan races on the ballot".

Floridians can check their current voter registration status and polling place by using the State of Florida Voter Lookup tool available on the Division of Elections website.
