EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) - Franklin County Sheriff's Office deputies say a man has died after he and another man were rescued from the Apalachicola Bay.
FCSO says they responded to a boat in distress Tuesday afternoon on the Eastpoint side of the John Gorrie Memorial Causeway.
They say two men were struggling to swim toward land as FCSO, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Franklin Detention Officers and nearby civilians tried to rescue them.
"Despite the tremendous outpouring of help," deputies wrote on Facebook, "one man was pronounced deceased after extensive CPR."
FCSO says the other victim has been reported as stable after a night of recovery.
