BRANDON, Fla. - Students at a high school near Tampa arrived on campus to discover a dead deer strung up by its hind leg on a flagpole.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies are investigating the deer, which was discovered Monday morning at Brandon High School.

School staff quickly lowered the deer and moved it out of sight until investigators arrived.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon says it could have been a school prank.

Deputies say they're looking to see if video surveillance cameras captured the culprits, who could face trespassing charges if identified. The school has security cameras on the outside of the building, but it's unclear whether they captured those involved.
