LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 45-year-old woman has died after being struck by a sports utility vehicle while waiting at a South Florida bus stop.
The Broward Sheriff's Office say Nelita Ali-Barker was waiting for the bus Thursday in Lauderdale Lakes west of Fort Lauderdale when a car drove onto the sidewalk and struck her. She was pinned between the vehicle's bumper and one of the columns of the bus stop. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say it's unclear why Jerdy Germain, 39, drove into the bus stop. Speed and impairment are not believed to be contributing factors.
Criminal charges are not pending.
