DCF to Host Concert to Help Recruit Foster Parents for Teens

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Ever thought of becoming a foster parent? Curious about what it takes? Here's your chance to get your questions answered in a fun environment!

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is partnering up with several local organizations to host a concert and foster parent recruitment event for teenagers in foster care. It will be held at Christian Heritage Church, 2820 Sharer Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312.

The free concert on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 6:30pm to 8:15pm, will feature the NexGen Band, a group of teenagers who are either foster, adopted or biological children of foster families from various locations within Florida.

Organizations participating in the event include DCF, Big Bend Community-Based Care and Children's Home Society. In addition, several local foster parents and advocates will be at the event and available to answer any questions for people who are interested in becoming foster parents.

According to DCF, in the Northwest Region, there are 2,056 children in foster care, and of them, about 385 are between the ages of 13 and 17.
