TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An application site to help Hurricane Michael victims in Leon County replace their food is now in Tallahassee.

The Federal Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is set to open up in just two hours.

WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Wednesday at the site.

Here at the Centre of Tallahassee inside the old Burlington, hundreds of workers with the Florida Department of Children and Families is preparing to help out residents of Leon County impacted by Hurricane Michael.

When you come in, you'll meet with an eligibility specialist to discuss your options.

The process is said to take no more than 10 to 15 minutes.

So who can apply? Anyone who suffered a loss due to Hurricane Michael and isn't currently collecting SNAP Benefits, which are more commonly known as Food Stamps can come out and apply.

You have to live or work in one of the counties declared for FEMA Individual Assistance.

"Actually it was a really smooth process. I thought that it would take a lot longer than what it did. It turned out to be a really smooth process," said Kenneth Bells, who applied on Wednesday. "I'm happy with any assistance that I can get and I'm very appreciative of that."

For the first time this year, you can apply by phone ahead of time. It ends Wednesday at 8 p.m.

If you come in on Wednesday, you’ll receive a card and it’ll take up to 72 hours to see your benefits. If you apply by phone, it could take up to six days.

But you apply in person starting Wednesday.

It will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Monday, November 19, with the exception of Saturday.
