TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It would seem the number of bicycle related accidents are on the rise, even when cyclists are using lights and reflective gear.
The number of bicyclists also seems to be increasing, especially with the warmer weather returning.
With the large number of bicycle related accidents happening as of late, many cyclists have fear about getting back on the roadways.
Benton's January accident left him with a broken leg, broken neck, and a cracked hip.
He recently was able to get the last cast taken off.
Because biking is his main mode of transportation, Benton has been easing back into riding, mainly around neighborhoods.
He says he's frightened to get back on the bigger streets.
"I have commuted pretty much my whole adult life and I don't have a car, so I really need to get back out there," said Benton. "I'm a little apprehensive. I don't think it's any worse, traffic-wise. I just think it's just happenstance."
Benton urges anyone who has questions about safe cycling to join a riding group or stop by the "Bicycle House."
