CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFTS) - The shooting of a central Florida man is sparking protests and debate about changes in Florida's Stand Your Ground law.

Tallahassee attorney Benjamin Crump, Trayvon Martin's family attorney, is representing the victim's girlfriend in the Stand Your Ground case.

He says this case is different than Trayvon's because it was captured on video. He says that could make the difference between the shooter walking or spending years in jail.

"We have to say no," Crump said. "This is not justice!"

Crump insists this video speaks for itself showing Michael Drejka as the initial aggressor approaching Markeis McGlockton's girlfriend after she parked in a handicapped parking spot outside a convenience store

"It's ludicrous you can claim you have fear of your life but yet you approach and start the confrontation," Crump said.

He also says the video shows McGlockton backing away before Drejka killed him.

Crump believes race played a big role in both the McGlockton and Trayvon Martin cases, claiming if the shooter was a black man it would have a different outcome.

"They both were allowed to go home and sleep in their bed that night after killing unarmed black men," Crump said.

McGlockton, Markeis' father: "That's all my son was doing, protecting his family. Any man out there would have done the exact same thing."

McGlockton's family is begging the state attorney to prosecute and is also calling out state leaders to amend the Stand Your Ground law so that the person escalating the violence cannot claim immunity.

"At least have the audacity to say we as a Legislature are going to speak to this obvious miscarriage of justice," Crump said.

Drejka told Pinellas County deputies he was afraid for his life after McGlockton pushed him to the ground.

The state attorney's office says the Pinellas County Sheriff's office has not turned over the case yet.

They expect to receive it by next week.
