Murder investigation in Tift County

TIFTON, Ga. (WTXL) -- Tift County deputies are investigating a series of shootings that's left at least one person dead and one wounded.

Tift County Sheriff Office tells us the most recent shooting took place around lunch time at Short and Sixth streets. We have confirmed that one man has died and one woman has been sent to the hospital with a non-threatening gun shot wound to the arm.

WTXL has confirmed with school officials that JT Reddick Middle School was on lock down for much of the day.

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are on scene.

The Tifton Gazette reports the first shooting happened happened between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on South Central Avenue behind the Chevron station. No one was injured.
