BELL, Fla. (WTXL) -- Gilchrist County deputies say preliminary autopsy results confirm that Don Spirit did shoot and kill his 28-year-old daughter and his six grandchildren before turning the gun on himself.

Deputies released the new information Tuesday morning along with the recording of the nearly 2 minute long 911 call that Don Spirit made September 18th.

"I just shot my daughter and shot all of my grand kids and I'll be sitting on my steps and when you get here I'm going to shoot myself," Don Spirit told the 911 dispatcher.

Spirit was short on the call, his emotions seemingly nerved and impatient. When pressed for more information, Spirit remained to the matter of fact, including when the dispatcher asked Spirit about what kind of gun he used.

"It doesn't matter what kind of gun I have, they're all dead, and when you get here I'll shot myself and then you can figure out what kind of gun it is," Don Spirit told the dispatcher.

When Gilchrist County Deputies arrived to the family's home in Bell, Florida they found the bodies of Don Spirit, 51, along with the bodies of his 28-year-old daughter, Sarah Spirit, and her six children:

  • Kaleb Kuhlmann (11)
  • Kylie Kuhlmann (9)
  • Johnathan Kuhlmann (8)
  • Destiny Stewart (5)
  • Twins Alanna Stewart (3 months) and Brandon Stewart (3 months)

Deputies say there remains no clear motive into the shooting, but know that Don Spirit used a .45 caliber hand gun to commit the crime. Being a convicted felon, deputies say they're investigating how Don Spirit obtained the gun.

The Associated Press reports that Monday it was revealed that two weeks before Spirit shot and killed his family, someone called the state child abuse hotline, worried that adults were doing drugs in front of the kids.

The Department of Children and Families opened an investigation into Sarah Spirit on September 1. Spirit told investigators she had tested positive for drugs when she was screened by her probation officers and was arrested on August 26 for violating that probation.

When she got out of jail, Spirit and her children were kicked out of their home and went to live with her father.
