WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A motorcyclist from Crawfordville  received critical injuries when an SUV drove into his path Wednesday in Wakulla County.

Jerry Rinkel, 62, was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare after the 1:55 p.m. Wednesday accident at the intersection of U.S. 319 and Taff Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP said an SUV was facing west, attempting to exit 2679 Crawfordville Highway and turn left onto Crawfordville Highway while Rinkel was traveling northbound on Crawfordville Highway.

The SUV driver did not see the motorcyclist, FHP said, and pulled into his path. Rinkel reied to slow down to avoid the crash, but ended up hitting the SUV's front left tire.

Troopers say the impact caused Rinkel's motorcycle to spin around, knocking him off of the bike. He suffered critical injuries.

The SUV driver was not injured. FHP said charges are pending.
