TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It’s no secret now that Proof Brewing Company will be moving to the old Coca Cola Factory on the southside of town.
But before the CRA can give Proof any money, they want to see how the brewery will give back to the community.
WTXL ABC’s Jada Williams was live Monday morning at the current Proof location.
The CRA is asking that Proof go into the Southside and work to redevelop and become an active part of the Southside Community. They are not asking for specifics because they want whatever Proof comes up with to be organic.
Members of the Citizens Advisory Committee weren’t completely on board with giving $450,000 to the brewery, saying that moving into the area wouldn’t do much for those living in the southside.
Thats why Proof is now tasked with being a bigger part of the area.
Some of the proposed ideas include having a space for people in the area to host parties and events. The owners of Proof have been working with neighborhood leaders to identify and address what the company can do to meet the needs of their new possible patrons.
The Citizens Advisory Committee gave the CRA a list of recommendations to be included in the development agreement.
Those conditions include meeting with the Office of Economic Vitality's Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprise Division, meeting with officials to finalize design plans, and of course the community engagement.
CRA will decide if they want to approve Proof’s $450,000 request at the 9:30 a.m. Monday meeting.
Proof has partnered with the city to have an apprenticeship program with TEMPO. TEMPO is an organization that helps 16-24 year olds with no education get valuable and employable skills. Many of the participants live in the Southside area.
